Say Cheese!
Laprade Studios once again did a fantastic job for us during this week's photo shoot! All students were photographed individually and as a class! Everyone brought their smiles to school and took great pictures! A retake date will be announced as soon as it becomes available.

Johnny Appleseed Comes to Visit
John Chapman was born on September 26, 1774 in Leominster, MA. He paid a visit to many classrooms this week and shared some stories about his life. He also talked to students about the components of a tall tale as many of the stories about his life have become exaggerated over the years!

Freedom Wordles
Fifth grade students created wordles, a mix of words and illustrations, for the word FREEDOM. Their creations were beautiful, creative, and inspiring.

Social Thinking Begins
All students in grades 2-5 will be receiving Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking curriculum this year. Our adjustment counselor, Mrs. Purvis, will deliver this curriculum to students during their scheduled library time 12 times throughout the year. During their first class all students learned all about Whole Body Listening. This is a skill that students will use in all settings of our building as well as at home, on a sports field, or when they are just hanging out with their friends.

Pirate Place Value
Miss Babigian's class has been working on the the different ways to write numbers. They used these pirates to demonstrate numbers in standard form, expanded form, and word form. These pirates ARRRGH awesome!

Garden of Synonyms
The third grade hallway is in full bloom! Students have created flowers full of synonyms and the walls look great!

Getting Expository With Edison
Mrs. Woupio's and Mrs. Chauvin's students worked in groups to correctly identify main ideas and details pertaining to Thomas Edison. They then put their completed paragraphs together to make expository essays about this famous American!

Fifth Grade Continues to Soar
Mrs. Martinsen's class has also displayed their hopes and dreams for the year. Students in Ms. Baldyga's science classes are also soaring as they complete their first science lab involving the creation and "soaring" of paper airplanes.

A big thanks goes out to the Douglas PTO, Douglas Athletic Boosters, Douglas Police Department, and the many volunteers who helped to make this such a success!
