March 24, 2016

It's been a busy few weeks and we are enjoying this beautiful weather now that Spring has sprung! Our second trimester has come to a close, and we are working hard on wrapping up our last third of this year! We celebrated Read Across America week with a spirited Dr. Seuss week! Students have also been creating spectacular artwork, great writing pieces, and fantastic book reports!

Enjoy,
Sam Cederbaum

Oh, The Places You'll Go!
In honor of Read Across America, we celebrated with a week of Dr. Seuss inspired spirit days! From crazy socks, to crazy hats, to pajamas, we had a wonderful week of fun!

Read Across America Community Readers
On March 2, Dr. Seuss's birthday, members of the Douglas community came to the Elementary School to read to our students. Thank you to all our readers for making this yearly event so special!

 Congratulations to February's Hard Workers
At February's Community Meeting, we recognized another group of Hard Workers! Congratulations to all of this month's students!

Positive Referrals
Several students have received Positive Referrals over the last several weeks. These students have been shining examples in our school community. They are helpful, hard working, and are great role models to others.

Arts Alive!
Mr. Scafidi has been teaching the Elementary students some awesome skills this year! From primary, secondary, and tertiary colors to the color wheel to blending and shading to the elements of a landscape. Using all of this knowledge, the students have created some AWESOME artwork!

Fraction Bowling.....STRIKE!!
Mrs. Gauthier's class worked on fractions by bowling this week! They hurled the ball and recorded the number of pins they knocked down in fraction form! Way to go!

Presidential Presentations
Second grade students have been working hard to learn about a U.S. President. They each completed a book report and presented information about their President to their classmates. Some students even dressed the part to make their presentations more realistic!

Title I Books for B-I-N-G-O!
Title I Reading students and their families gathered for a fun night of reading and BINGO! Some of our older students even helped with the calling! They did a fantastic job and a great time was had by all! A big thank you to Mrs. Cordani, Mrs. Bari, Mrs. McDonald, and Mrs. Stewart for all their hard work in coordinating this fun event!

Soccer Champions
We had two teams of students perform well over February vacation this year. Coach Stevens brought us in their trophies to put in our display case! They look great! Congratulations to these students for their hard work and dedication on the field!

ROCK n' Roll with Fourth Grade
Fourth graders wrote ROCK songs about the rock cycle in their current science unit of study. The students took a known song, rewrote the lyrics, and performed for their classmates!

Doing Decimals Right!
Fifth graders created posters explaining the use of decimals. They also presented their work to their classmates!
