June 10, 2016

Wow, what a busy week! We had some great activities, presentations, as well as an AWESOME field day and a PTO dance! Hard to believe that there are only 4.5 days of school left in this year!

Enjoy,
Sam Cederbaum

PTO Walk-A-Thon
All students took a turn completing 4 laps around the track on Monday for the annual
Walk-A-Thon. Everyone had a blast!

Wally Kicks Off Summer Reading
We had a VERY special visitor to DES on Wedneday: WALLY the Green Monster! He came with his friend Allison from Fenway Park. She talked about the importance of reading and shared one of Wally's favorite stories with us! Wally even acted out the story while she read it aloud. We had a sing along, took a whole school picture, and were even able to high five Wally on our way back to class! Thanks to the PTO for bringing this great program to our school!

S.A.F.E. Fire Station Visit
Grade three students finished off their year long S.A.F.E. program with a visit to the Douglas Fire Station. They learned all about the different trucks, got to sit in the driver's seat, climb aboard an ambulance, and even spray a fire hose! Congratulations to our 2016 S.A.F.E. graduates! A big thank you to Nick Donahue and Chief Kent Vinson for bringing S.A.F.E. to the elementary school this year!

D.A.R.E. Graduation
Fifth grade students have spent 10 weeks learning all about making good decisions as well as the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and bullying in D.A.R.E. classes with Officer Brett Fulone, our school resource officer. The graduation ceremony had great singers and fantastic student readers. Congratulations to our 2016 D.A.R.E. graduates! Thank you Officer Brett and Chief Foley for continuing to see the importance of this valuable program to the students here in Douglas!

Field Day 2016
We had a spectacular Field Day on Friday! The weather was great and the students had a blast while their parents cheered them on! Second and third graders participated in 8 different stations throughout the morning while fourth and fifth graders competed in 14 different events to try and clinch the Field Day trophy for their class! This year our fourth grade champions are MRS. TEDISKY'S CLASS and our fifth grade champions are MRS. MARTINSEN'S CLASS!! Way to go boys and girls! The afternoon wrapped up with a picnic lunch, extra recess, a popsicle party, and a laser show! Thanks to the PTO for their support in making this a successful event for all to enjoy!

Someone Special Dance
Friday night brought our first annual Night Under the Stars with Someone Special Dance. Sponsored by the PTO, students and their guests enjoyed food, dancing, and FUN!
